Wilby CE VA Primary School is committed to ensuring the welfare and safety of all children in school. All Northamptonshire schools, including Wilby CE VA Primary School, follow the Northamptonshire Local Safeguarding Children Board Inter-Agency Procedures. The school will, in most circumstances, endeavour to discuss all concerns with parents about their child/ren. However, there may be exceptional circumstances when the school will discuss concerns with Social Care and / or the Police without parental knowledge (in accordance with Child Protection procedures). The school will, of course, always aim to maintain a positive relationship with all parents. The school's child protection policy is available on request.

Keeping Your Child Safe Online

At school, we spend a considerable amount of time teaching your child to keep safe whilst they are accessing the internet. You don't need to be a technical expert to protect your child on the internet. Below are some very simple steps to get your started.

  • Talk to your child about the websites that they use. By understanding and involving yourself in their internet use, you're helping to keep them safe.
  • Be positive about the internet and remember that it is a fantastic learning and communication tool.
  • Try not to overreact to minor issues. If your child worries that you may take away their internet access, they could become secretive and hide problems from you.
  • Keep PCs, laptops and games consoles out of bedrooms wherever possible. Having the laptop in a family room makes it easier for you to monitor your child's internet use, whilst still giving them privacy.
  • Set clear ground rules and expectations for your child's online behaviour. If they understand what is and isn't acceptable, it may help them to navigate any problems in the future

What do I do now?....Am I doing the right thing?

Hello All,

I have been sent some really helpful information which I thought may be of interest to you.

As parents I think we all have times where we wonder... What do I do now?....Am I doing the right thing?.....I really need some help and support with  this.

I have been advised of two Parenting Courses that are running in our area, which may provide the answers and support we often wish he could get.

The first is the Triple P (Positive Parenting Programme,) which is run through the Nene Lakes Children's Centre, at Earls Barton Junior School (01604 810260). This programme offers all parents/carers infromation, support and practical answers to everyday parenting concerns.

The other is the Solihull Approach Parenting Group, which will explore issues such as Parenting styles, Developmental needs,Temper Tantrums,Communication, Sleep, Behaviour and having FUN together! This group will start on the 23rd April 2013 and run on subsequent Tuesday mornings for 10 weeks, at Ruskin Infant School (01933 381 600)

If you think these would be of interest to you feel free to use the contact numbers provided or ask me for any further information.
